Flies Control Management

Flies Control Management

Let us see some flies which are commonly seen in the surrounding. They are common house fly, drain fly, flesh fly and blow fly. They are the main cause of spreading disease in the surrounding as they normally fed on the garbage and other sewage treatment plants.

Types of flies:

  • Common house Fly: The common fly is the most common fly found almost all over the world. These fly has a high breeding rate and liking for almost any kind of food material. The particles of dirt stick around their body hair and that makes it an efficient carrier of disease causing organism.
  • Flesh Fly: This flesh fly comes up with three dark stripes on the thorax and checkerboard pattern on grey abdomen. They are usually 10-12 mm long. They feed on carrions, dung or decaying material and even open wounds on animal. Larvae are whitish maggots which feed before 5-7 days before borrowing into the soil to pupate. When these maggots develop in open wound in animals, they can cause myiasis and blood poisoning or leprosy infection.
  • Blow Fly: This flesh fly comes up with three dark stripes on the thorax and checkerboard pattern on grey abdomen.
  • Drain Fly: The drain fly or moth fly are small, dark, fuzzy flies which are about 2-3 mm long. They usually feed on organic matter and microscopic plants that grow in the filth. They are often found clinging to the walls of damp areas in bathrooms and kitchens. They are called as weak fliers as they are only able to fly a few feet at a time. They do not bite. They are usually active at night. They are the most common insect inhabitant of sewage treatment plant.

Sign of flies infestation

The most common sign of a house fly infestation is the presence of the flies, themselves. Larvae may also be seen crawling out of their breeding material as they pupate. Along with seeing house flies, people may hear them around the home. House flies produce buzzing sounds which is a result of their two wings beating together.

Treatment

Flies breed in any decaying, rotting organic matter like garbage, filth, excreta, manure etc. Garbage dumps attracts flies for food and lays eggs. Flies regurgitate when feeding; this habit, together with particles of refuse stuck to their bodies, leads to contamination of human food and transmission of disease.
